Multiple exposure music videos online 

As we had already decided we wanted to produce a video using multiple exposure and layering, I started searching for inspiration online but to my surprise there was very little to look at. There were a few videos like the ones below which used the silhouette of a person/object and overlaid a separate video.  This is interesting but not what we were looking for. I have seen many images like these videos before and I think it's been over done, we aim to do something more inventive.

Laura Pannack 

I really love the gentle beauty in Laura Pannack's work. While talking about the aesthetic of our video Laura's series 'The world of Boys' instantly popped into my head. I want the video to radiate the same purity and innocence that the series does. I want to replicate the soft hazy glow of the series in a literal sense but also in a symbolic sense, the images make you feel something they aren't cold, sharp or edgy. They are almost romantic, not as if she is praying on the young men but as if promoting the beauty of male youth; the ups the downs, the insecurities and so on. I want our video to be able to do a similar thing, I want to be able to convey the beauty, tranquility and simplicity of the early morning walk which our actress embarks upon. I understand that encoding that much subliminal meaning into something is not that easy and that Pannack has taken a lot of time and effort to convey such emotions in her work but I will be drawing upon certain elements of 'The World of Boys' and her other series such as 'The Babuskas' and 'Saving the cursed children of Ghana' to further the message and themes of the video.

I will be employing the hazy/muted colour pallet and experimenting with the idea of posture to impose an emotion over the scene, I have noticed Laura does this is some of her work (whether this is intentional or not) and it is very effective. The way in which the model holds themselves changes the image completely, a strong and extrovert posture gives the idea of happiness and confidence whereas a closed up introvert posture gives the idea of sadness or emotional distress. 

  

  

Jesse Burke

I was drawn to Jesse Burke's work for a similar reason that I was drawn to Laura Pannak's. She captures a calm, quiet beauty in her images, most specifically her series 'Wild & Precious' which is made up of a series of road trips taken with her daughter. The series shows a real connection between the two, I have drawn the most inspiration from the portraits in this collection. These striking, intimate shots convey such emotion from such a young subject. 

The colour and intensity of the images are so powerful, each one seems to tell a story of its own within the series. I am not planning on taking inspirations for portraits but more the idea of capturing so much emotion in a shot, I want to be able to produce images that really capture the essence of the video that can be later overlaid.

Anouk Kruithof

While researching multiple exposure artists I came across Anouk Kruithof, there was an article on VICE uk detailing her kickstarter campaign. Her work covers a variety of styles but the work I found the most interesting was her selection of crazy layered images. These images feature different faces and body parts with different patterns and colours over the top as you can see bellow. 

These images have given me a lot of ideas in terms of the double exposures, I love the way these shots incorporate different faces in the one frame. I really want to see how this sort of thing will work in the video. I want to try layering stills of the actress instead of just images of her surroundings over the video or even other video clips of her.
